You are so awesome
Hey Jason, thanks so much for creating this video! Keep up the good work. This is my first try at Illustrator and I’m lucky to have come across this tutorial.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify an issue that loads of people seem to be having with this tutorial. It’s while creating the mouth and the inner mouth shadow that numerous users are finding difficulty. It was the same in my case and after a long while I think I could have found the answer.
Apparently, what you need to do before you key in CMD+C CMD+F is, you need to select the initial outer mouth shape and hit “Expand Appearance”. What this does is it brings the anchor points to the periphery/path and the pivot to the center. What happened in my case, now I’m not sure if this is the same problem that everyone is having, was that after I was warping and manipulating the mouth shape, the anchor points and the pivot were going out of position and the subsequent CMD+C CMD+F was leading to a weird mouth shape being created that took the form of the mouth shape but not on the basis of what it appeared to me, but on the basis of the out of position anchors.
Once again, this was the problem that I was having, and there’s no guarantee that others are having the same issue. But if you do find yourself stuck in this spot, give my solution a go to see if it works.
Good luck fellow Illustrator students and thanks again Jason!
🙂
GOD bless you

Hey Jason, great tutorial! I have a problem – when I try to use the “Minus-Front” option (in this case we were trying it with the mouth) I get a terrible shape. It seems to not be working properly. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m trying to follow along and I can’t find “option” to copy the “ear”.. I’m using a Windows 10 laptop. Am I missing something?
