Maya Tutorial – How to create a realistic Eyeball with Arnold

In this tutorial, we are going to take a quick overview of how to use Solidangle’s Arnold renderer in maya.
As an example we’ll be modelling, shading and rendering a realistic human eye. We’ll start things of with modelling a correct anatomy of an eye, with sclera and iris as separate objects then we’ll cover how we can unwrap such objects for projection texturing.

In the final chapter of this maya tutorial we’ll be using maya’s hyperhshade in conjunction with the Arnold renderer to create accurate shaders and the most important part; how
to combine two shaders to be a part of a single objects using alpha masks. We’ll also briefly touch on how to set up linear workflow in Arnold for Maya and how to gamma correct your incoming textures to produce accurate results.

The hardest part i find is nodes in Hypershade ….wish i knew what i do there. ..its bit complicated to connect nodes without knowing how thinks works there ..i like the ens result here…wow! thanks for sharing

I have a problem with render eyes reflection in maya, light reflection in eyes always have diffrent position, but when i try render in 3dsmax have no problem

Eugene, If I set the texture gamma in the arnold gamma settings to .454, would this have the same effect as using gama nodes?

I hate when Yotubers are saying things like “this is not a texturing tutorial” or something along the lines. Texturing is a huge part of this 3d model of an eye other you would see the lambert material in the final render. besides, it’s more content for the viewers to see and know about. although not going to lie, this video is pretty useful on everything else, but it just bothers me sometimes whenever they say those things. I’m considering making the same video myself except explaining how these textures work myself to show what i mean

Great Tutorial… Only I don’t get the sclerashape to be opaque in my scene. Any suggetions why? The Iris is still black when I uncheck Opaque.

@Edge-CGI tutorials and more! When I render out, the sclera is all black and I can only see the iris…I’ve clearly gone wrong somewhere but I can’t work it out for the life of me. I’ve been over all my connections in the Hypershade node editor, a number of times now. Somebody please help me lol
